Greetings: Members of the Lilly-Washington Historical Society (L-WHS)

The Lilly Area Bicentennial Committee would like to thank all residents and former residents of the Greater Lilly Area who attended the Wrap party on Feb. 3rd   -  and to all those who helped make  the Bicentennial Year such a success. Please check our web site: www.l-whs.com to view the Wrap Party Program where the major donors of Time, Talent, and Treasure are listed.

The individual donations of $5.00 for Wrap Party tickets totaled over $1,500 that will be applied to the cost of the Monument honoring the Volunteers of Our Community. The $750 that was raised by the Chinese Auction will be applied to the Monument that will mark the Allegheny Portage Railroad Culvert on Portage Street. The APRR culvert was built in 1832 and is the oldest structure in Our Community and is listed on the National Historical Registry. We would welcome the loan of any photos of the events of the Bicentennial Year so that we can upgrade the power-point presentation – 2006 The Year That Was - shown at the Wrap Party – We plan to refine the presentation and put it on a C.D. that would be made available to the public – please call Jim Salony 886-7282 if you have any photos to share.

Now that the events of the bicentennial year are complete – we can get back to full time work on the History Book. There still remains a lot of formatting work to do – the addition of photos-tables-maps-charts –graphs etc. to the text. We can still add photos and need photos (inside and outside views) of the old local businesses, places (B.A.B.etc.), and events (parades etc.), in particular we need photos of people -men, woman, kids engaged in everyday activities – pitching horseshoes or hay, beating a rug or washing clothes, fixing a car or building a house, swimming, skating, fishing, knitting, gardening, playing cards or checkers.

You get the idea – give me a call 814 – 886- 7282 or www.l-whs.com

We will publish the History Book as soon as we can. We are not going to set a date certain – but we are going to take the time necessary to produce a quality product.  The $32. ($37-mailed) - price will hold until publication date. Thank you for your patience. If anyone wants to cancel an order and receive an immediate refund (or voice your displeasure) please call Jim Salony –886 7282.

In addition to the History Book we are working on the following projects.

Our next Major Monument – (that will be dedicated this summer) – will honor the Volunteers of Our Community –Past and Present – those who sustained Our Community through the years and allowed it to perdure. The Monument will be erected on the grounds of the Lilly Area Ambulance Association and will mark another corner on the intersection of Main and Cleveland Street which – when our other projects are completed - will be renamed Heritage Square,

Time Capsules – We are assembling two time capsules to mark Our Bicentennial – one to be opened in 50 years and one to be opened in 100 years. The time capsules will be sealed in the Volunteer Monument.

Monument Heritage Room – We are working on the second floor of the Borough Building and are setting up the displays of the artifacts from Our Community. We can use all things – paper, wood, metal, glass – that are related to Lilly/Washington Township for display. Please advise at 814-886-7282 or on our web-site what you would like us to consider. We have picked up two more major sponsors for our Heritage Room: The Veigle Family have given $1000 in honor of their parents Francis and Virginia Sloan Veigle to sponsor the Religion Section and Richard Nadolsky has given $l000 in honor of his parents Michael B. Nadolsky and Blanche Short Nadolsky to sponsor the Governance Section. Check the enclosed donation form for the other areas for which we need sponsors.

L-WHS Memberships – Please check the enclosed “Life”and “Memorial” Membership Lists and correct any mis-listings. If you have an Annual Membership check your address label for renewal information – please renew. If you want to raise the level of your membership – please complete the form.

This page list our Life Members ($50). This is a membership for life with no further payments               2.
