Much praise deserves to be bestowed on the Traditional Anglers of Pennsylvania from Portage who recently stocked both the Little Conemaugh and the Bear Rock Run here in town with trout for this fishing season. This makes for great entertainment for the children of the area

ST FRANCIS XAVIER
On Sunday, April 20th I had the opportunity to attend the Mass at St. Francis Xaviers in Cresson where my granddaughter Kiana Nadolsky was making her First Holy Communion. This was a beautiful occasion as the 20 children making up the communion group joined their families in receiving the sacrament.
Father George Budash, the new pastor there made both parishioners and visitors feel very welcome. He took the time to explain some plans to remodel the church interior that will add to the beauty of this Gothic designed church that already is very nice.
The music was very enjoyable and the one nun has a heavenly voice that made the service extra special. My little granddaughter Kiera, who loves to sing would mimic the nun as she sang
ROMAN HOLIDAY
My sisters Eileen Sweeney and Maureen Kelly just got back from a 10 day trip to Italy along with 40 members of St. Benedicts Church in Johnstown. Several on the tour like Maureen from Illinois and some guests from South Carolina, Maryland and Florida had received CD’s and music to practice for the trip The choral group was able to sing at a public Mass at St. Peters Basilica at the Vatican on April 12th and later at St. Marcos in Venice. They also sang at private masses at the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi and the church of All Saints in Florence. Monsignor Michael Becker who accompanied them celebrated the private masses.
Eileen celebrated her birthday on April 17th with a visit to the Tuscan Hills which is wine and grape country with cattle ranches .She said she had the best steak dinner of her life at a restaurant there where she was also serenaded to the “Happy Birthday Song” in Italian.
They were in a large group who received the Papal Blessing from the Pope on the 12th before he left for his American visit. At Saint Paul’s they were able to see the icons of all of the 265 Popes. They also were able to tour the Catacombs of Rome and also saw Michelangelo’s “Pieta “ and statue of “David” along with his paintings in the Sistine Chapel. They also tossed coins into the Trevi fountain and enjoyed a gondola ride on the canals of Venice.
Eileen and Maureen especially enjoyed seeing the many beautiful mosaics and paintings in the many churches they visited. They were amazed at the amount of pure gold in many of the churches. They made many new friends on the trip and brought many joyful memories home.
For Eileen this trip was a highlight to her musical career that goes back to when she started taking piano lessons at age 6 from Sister Cerilla at St. Brigids. Sister Mary Conrad then taught her to play the organ and at age 9 she was playing at Masses in the Church. While still in grade school she would play morning masses for Father Verekar at Saint Agnes Church in Cassandra. Joe George would pick her up each morning, drive her to the church, and then later drive her to school.
Eileen served as the choir director for the adult choir at St. Brigids and later Our Lady of the Alleghenies for 37 years and had 49 years as an organist. She is still singing with the liturgical choir at St. Benedicts.
