HUNTER SAFETY

On April 18th and 19th the Bear Rock Sportsman Club is sponsoring a FREE hunter safety course for 1st time hunters age 11 and up and those licensed hunters who intend to take a hunting trip to another state.

The course will run Friday evening, the 18th, from 5 P.M until 9 P.M and Saturday the 19th from 9 A.M until 4 P.M. You can register by calling Carrie Andraychak at 886-7279 The program will be held at the sportsmen club on Route 53.

Several very experienced woodsmen will be the instructors including John Latoche, Steve Suchta, Jim Davies and Phil Andraychak. Carrie will also aid with the class. The Bear Rock Sportsman Club deserves a lot of credit for making this program available to the youth of the area and also providing the lunch that goes with the program.

BLUEBIRDS

Phil Andraychak told me that he saw an Eastern Blue bird nesting on March 19th. He states this is a reliable sign of the coming of spring. Brother Pat says in a few weeks we can expect the hummingbirds to return from Central America. Last year they arrived on April 28th.

Another good sign of spring approaching was noticeable this past week as Frank Klayko was busy cleaning the cinders and shale off of Piper Street. He does this voluntarily each spring and his effort is really appreciated by all the neighbors on the street.

PROGRESS

Judy George, her daughter Mandy and family are anxiously awaiting the completion of the new home on Cleveland Street. This past week it was quite evident the occupancy day is nearing as Bryce Saylor Company with a very large crane put the house together in very little time and the next day a crew from Blacks installed and shingled the roof.

Meanwhile up in Cresson Township son Steve and his mother Helen are also getting anxious as their home is also nearing completion. The beautiful structure was designed by Helen and son John and built by the two brothers and a few friends who worked continually throughout the very cold weather to get the project completed. This replaces the home lost by fire on December 1st.

BIRTHDAYS

Today, the 3rd Rita Norris celebrates her birthday as will Bett Behe, John Bost, Howard McIntosh, Patricia Muldoon and Francis Risko on the 4th. Then on April 5th it will be Andrew Dziabo, Shane Hartline and Matthew Nadolsky who will be partying.

On April 6th Pauline Brady who will be 92, Amy Davies and Alyssa Seaman celebrate as will Brooklynne Clinemyer, Caitlyn Klatt, Mary Kay Lukacs, Deborah Wilson and Jean McGarry on the 7th.

On the 8th Karen Claar and Francis (Hubba) Patterson both get to be a year older and on the 9th Courtney Askins, Amy Cropsey, Sheila Cropsey, Elaine Holsberger, Mike Muldoon and Helen Barlick all celebrate birthdays.

ANNIVERSARIES

On April 8th Francis and Ruth Patterson celebrate their wedding anniversary as will John and Lee Ann Inmam on the 9th. This will be the Inman’s 59th year together. Happy Anniversary to both couples.

WEATHERMAN

Remember the predictions last fall by our two Legion weathermen Steve Hammond and Jim Steberger.Well,  Jim had said we would have a warm winter with lots of snow and Steve said it would be a very cold winter without much snow.

 The results are in.

The Weatherman of the Year award goes to Steve Hammond. Although there was snow often on the ground it was never so deep as to make you tunnel your way to feed the dog .However it was bitter cold, day in and day out, especially in February and March .Better luck next year, Jim.
